Skin Testing in Montgomery County, PA
During allergy skin tests, your skin is exposed to suspected allergy-causing substances (allergens) and is then observed for signs of an allergic reaction. Along with your medical history, allergy tests may be able to confirm whether or not a particular substance you touch, breathe or eat is causing symptoms.
In preparation for these tests, please discontinue use of all antihistamines or antihistamine-containing products for 3 days prior to your appointment.
At the time of scheduled testing, the nurse will give more detailed instructions regarding testing.
Antihistamines include:
- Allegra
- Optivar Eye Drops
- Patanol Eye Drops
- Zaditor Eye Drops
- Fexofenadine
- Clarinex
- Zyrtec (Cetrizine)
- Asteline Nasal Spray
- Claritin (Loratidine)
Some over-the-counter medications contain antihistamines. Please ask your pharmacist if your prescription or non-prescription medication contains antihistamines before use in the next week prior to your appointment.
